Why Can't I Connect To A Phone Conversation Using My Ear Piece Button?

I can't seem to be able to connect to a call just using the ear piece itself. I can have a conversation when I answer using the phone and I can disconnect using the ear piece. Any suggestions as to how to accept a call using on the button on the ear piece?

If your earpiece doesn't operate the as shown in figure 2 for the answer end button, then it isn't paired properly or is defective.
