What stitch tension should I use?
The dial settings run from 0 to 9, so 4.5 is generally the 'default' position for normal straight-stitch sewing. This should be suitable for most fabrics. If you are doing a zig-zag stitch, or another stitch that has width, then you may find that the bobbin thread is pulled through to the top.
How do I fix the tension on my Pfaff sewing machine?
Use a screwdriver to turn the screw on the case a little to the left to loosen the tension. If the bobbin case drops quickly 5 inches or more, the tension is too loose. Turn the screw a little to the right to tighten the tension.

Cut a 5 to 7 inch on-grain square from your fabric. Stitch a line of straight stitches from one corner to the opposite corner (on the bias). Hold the square at opposite stitched corners, and pull the corners apart until you feel the thread break. Examine the position of the broken stitches.
