This Morning, April 19,2014 I Recieved A Notice I Had Paid $100 To Paypal For A

special package 6 for horseshoes. I did not order and if I did it was unintentional. Please refund. I have already contacted pay pal and they have taken me off the contract with you. They said to contact them again if you don't refund me.

Depending on the answers to a few questions, this is almost certainly a $CAM.

1.) When you received the notice, did Paypal address you by your given name (for example): "Dear John Smith: ..." or as 'Dear Valued Paypal Customer'? If the latter, then it is definitely a scam.

2.) Did Paypal 'attach' an HTML document you should load in your web browser to enter your Paypal login username and password to obtain 'further information about your recent transaction ...' (or send you *any* sort of attachment whatsoever) with an urging to open to read further information)? If so, it is a scam.

3.) If it were really from Paypal, they would not mention some vague 'special package ...', but would rather identify the item by name with a link to the vendor's web site and/or Paypal associated email address your money went to with a link for opening up a dispute if desired. If any of the above is lacking, it is definitely a scam. I don't know how much discretionary income you have lying around, and I am not exactly a pauper, but I think I would 'remember' spending $100+ dollars on something (or making a pre-order purchase agreement or having signed up for a monthly recurring payment agreement). If none of the above is true to the best of your recolelction, then it is very likely a scam.

My advise to you would be to go directly to the Paypal site (and NOT by clicking on any link in that email you received!), log in and reveiew recent history and/or any recurring payment agreements you might have. If the transaction you were sent is not listed or can not be reconciled with what is lsited, then imemdiately change password and call Paypal directly as well as write them from within the web site informing them of a possible spoofing/phishing/fraud attempt and follow whatever advice they may have given you to mitigate possible future financial harm.

Additionally, and lastly, if you *did* fill out one of those phony web pages or worse yet reply in email with account specifics when prompted and the info you gave the $cammer included a bank account routing #, account # or debit card details, you might do well to contact your lending institution and immediately change PIN code or possibly request a new card # entirely.

If none of the above applies, and it was in fact a legitimate recurring or 'open ended' contract you signed with a company that requires you to 'opt-out' of pending purchases, rather than pro-actively request merchandise, you *may* find depending on where you live, that you *may* be entitled to have your money returned *and* keep the merchandise you were sent (better read the agreement very carefully you signed and consult a free small claims attorney first), but people who have been the 'victim' of such shady business deals have been known to get their cake and get to eat it too! :-)
