If you have an Outlook Data File (.pst) that does not appear in the Navigation Pane, you can add it so that you can work with the items in the data file.
  1. Click the File tab.
  2. Click Account Settings, and then click Account Settings.
  3. On the Data Files tab, click Add.
  4. Click the Outlook Data File (.pst) file that you want to open, and then click OK.

You can open the .pst file in Outlook, pick out/read what you want and then close the .pst. Nothing is imported automatically, it's just like opening and closing a document.

In Outlook, go to File > New > Personal Folders File (.pst). Navigate to to the PST file and open it. The personal folder opened will be separate from the existing personal folder.

If it do not succeed for any reason, then maybe this post can help you out. Check

In there they say you can open outlook.pst files with their Outlook Recovery Toolbox program and outlook.
