can the battery be charged from under the hood?

Yes, use your positive jumping post under the hood its mounted on the passenger fender under a black plastic cover, or follow your cable from your starter, should also be shown in owners manual in 'jumpstarting" also put ground charging lead to any frame or engine bolt
