They have input signals by which define the purpose:-

One is near the power inlet at the bottom of the machine. This is a standard aerial connection which connects to an analogue tuner. You can connect an aerial to this and the tuner will decode analogue TV signals. The TV tuner will cease to function when the analogue switch off occurs.

The second connection is on the rear of the console and is a composite connection. This allows any device with a composite or scart connection to be attached to the screen, e.g. a freeview box, DVD player or games console. This connection does not have a tuning capability, it is necessary for the device attached to it to be transmitting a signal. If the device has only a scart output, you would need a scart to composite lead to attach this. These are available from most major electrical retailers.

To select which input is used, press the power button to the bottom left of the screen to alternate between inputs. For example, if you have a DVD player attached to the composite connections but can only see a snow/fuzz on the screen, press the power button and it will select the composite input and allow you to view the DVD.
