If you have water leaking from the valley pan under the intake on your 2006 Mercury Montego, it may be due to a failed intake manifold gasket. Here are the steps to fix it:
  1. Drain the coolant system: Before starting any repair work, make sure to drain the coolant system completely to avoid any spills or leaks.
  2. Remove the intake manifold: Start by removing the intake manifold from the engine. This will give you access to the valley pan and allow you to inspect the gasket.
  3. Inspect the gasket: Once the intake manifold is removed, inspect the gasket for any signs of damage, such as cracks or breaks. If the gasket is damaged, it will need to be replaced.
  4. Clean the surface: Use a gasket scraper and a rag to clean the surface of the engine block and the intake manifold where the gasket sits. This will ensure a proper seal when the new gasket is installed.
  5. Install the new gasket: Carefully place the new gasket onto the engine block, making sure it is properly aligned with the openings for the coolant passages.
  6. Reinstall the intake manifold: Place the intake manifold back onto the engine block, making sure it is properly seated on the new gasket.
  7. Reconnect the hoses and electrical connectors: Reconnect any hoses or electrical connectors that were disconnected during the removal process.
  8. Refill the coolant system: Refill the coolant system with the appropriate amount of coolant and bleed the air out of the system.
  9. Start the engine and check for leaks: Once everything is reassembled, start the engine and check for any leaks. If there are no leaks, you're good to go.

If you are not comfortable performing this repair yourself, it is recommended to take your vehicle to a professional mechanic or an authorized Mercury dealership for assistance.
