The problem is the cam sensor drive. When you replace the cam sensor you put onto a shaft were the distributor if you had one in the old days would go. On top of a drive in the middle of the timing chain cover.. It is worn and is causing the noise and the drive concern and it needs onto be replaced.

If your 2004 Ford Mercury Monterey is making a dinging noise every time you start it, it could indicate a few possible issues. Here are some common causes and troubleshooting steps you can follow:

Seatbelt reminder: Check if your seatbelt is properly fastened. Many vehicles have a seatbelt reminder system that will emit a dinging sound until the seatbelt is buckled. Make sure all passengers have their seatbelts securely fastened.

Door ajar warning: Check if any of the doors, including the tailgate or liftgate, are not fully closed. A door ajar warning system can trigger a dinging sound if a door is not properly closed. Open and close each door firmly to ensure they are securely shut.

Key in the ignition: Ensure that the ignition key is not left in the ignition switch. Some vehicles have a warning chime that sounds when the key is left in the ignition.

Low fuel warning: Check the fuel gauge to see if the fuel level is low. When the fuel level drops to a certain point, some vehicles will emit a dinging sound to indicate that it's time to refuel.

Faulty sensor or electrical issue: If none of the above causes apply, there may be a faulty sensor or electrical issue causing the dinging sound. In this case, it would be recommended to have the vehicle inspected by a qualified mechanic or Ford dealership. They will be able to diagnose the problem using specialized diagnostic tools and repair any faulty components.

It's important to address any persistent warning sounds in your vehicle, as they may indicate an underlying issue that requires attention.
