How Do You Disable Alarm

I found out my van has a car alarm, been driving it 6 month's ,didn't now it had one. I went to unlock it and set off the alarm and now I can't shut it off without taking battery cable off. Have tried several things to shut off but don't work. How do you disable the factory alarm system ?
