Factory Alarm Enable 2000 Mercury Villager Estate

I bought my car used. The alarm has never been on. I dont have remote, if there is one that came with those models, only key. What do I do to trouble shoot why it's not on? Will I have to have a remote to activate? How do i turn alarm on for preventive break in to my car?

Go to page 106 to see the security theft light location. I believe this light should blink continuously, if it does when you lock the car I think the alarm is set. Go here for some choices on getting remote(s) for your vehicle.
