My Mercury Mistique 97 Makes A Ratterling Noise On When Driving An Airy Sond

two weeks before having a complete oil and tuneup my 97mercury mistique started making an airy sound along with knocking i was told by a friend that it sounds like the lifter knocking not the rod knoccker if it is the lifter knock how much would this problem cost be fixed and is it worth fixing.
