Batt. Light Stays On When The Car Is Off And Key Is Out

I have a 1991 Grand Marquis and when the car is off and the key is out the batt symbol on the dash remains on. When I start the car the battery symbol turns off. I have checked the connections, cleaned the batt terminals and it remains on. Any advice?

The battery light staying on when the car is off and the key is out could indicate a problem with the charging system or a drain on the battery. Some things to check are:

Make sure all lights and accessories are turned off when the car is not in use.
Check the condition of the battery and make sure it is holding a charge properly.
Check the alternator by having it tested to make sure it is charging the battery correctly.
