Fading Timer Sound

For some reason, the beeper sound from our Maytag MER8674AS range has faded in the final months of its warranty to a point now that unless you press your ear to the console you cannot hear the sound. Since we are now past the warranty, I will attempt minor surgery to assertain the reason for the fading beeper. Thoughts?
