Provided your high speed internet is in fact high speed -- try the NetTalk TK6000.  Similar to Magic Jack, but it doesn't need a computer to operate.  It connects directly to your router, has a plug in power supple that powers a USB type cable or you can plug it into your computer and everything is included.  Cost about $99 bucks.  There are NO follow on fees at this time (06/2010)  Hook it up, get a phone number, make calls.  Customer service works through a "trouble ticket" set up.  Send in a problem, and they get to you in 24 to 48 hours.  Magic Jack is regularily excoriated for their lousy service. I have both running side by side, and call quality is great.  ADDED PLUS:::: Net Talk will work with fax machines -- Magic Jack will not.
