Someone Gave Me A New Magic Jack (regular, Not Magic Jack Plus). Will It Work?

I want to open the brand new Magic Jack that the guy gave me, but the guy told me to go find out if it will even work anymore. He thought that maybe there have been upgrades or changes that would make this one not work anymore, even though it is still in its original package (never been opened). He thought that if I open it, then there will be no hope of getting our money back, or getting a newer one free, by turning in this one. He thought maybe Radio Shack would just give me a free upgrade, by turning in this one. Now I am mad because he is making me hold off so I can check into this; but I just want to try this one now. So, will it work? And is there any advantage to taking it back to a store that sells Magic Jack? And, does Magic Jack have any contact info? (phone number is best)

Plug the magicJack into a free USB port, and then plug your phone line into the magicJack. The magicJack comes with a 6-inch USB extension cable in case it interferes with other devices plugged into your USB ports. (This information is from this independent review, which I recommend.)

If you bought the device at Radio Shack, you could probably return it for a refund or credit toward a magicJack Plus.
