Maintaining Warranty

In order to keep warranty in effect, I know it is recommended to have service every 5000 miles or 6 months whichever comes first. My question is since I don't drive many miles can I keep up the warranty by having service done every 5000 miles even if it takes more than 6 months to drive the 5000 miles?
