Restoring Profile Data?

My son's leap frog leap pad is having the message placeholder: restoring profile data.  This message is coming up everytime I plug the leappad into the computer.  The device will also not do anything when I turn it on when it's not plugged into the coputer. What can I do to get the system to work again?

We had the same problem and after working with Leapfrog Customer Service (call, do not e-mail) they sent us the analyzer which we ran on our computer and sent to them for review. They came back with the following directions, which we followed to successfully get the game working again: 

1) Please delete any videos or photos (taken with the LeapPad camera) from the device.

2) Put the LeapPad in "update" mode and connect:
a. Begin with the LeapPad turned off and the LeapFrog Connect application running on your computer.
b. Hold down these three buttons at the same time:
- Right on the DPad (Since the device can be rotated two ways, the right arrow is on the right side of the DPAD when you are holding it in portrait mode)
- Home
- Down Volume
c. While holding down all 3 buttons , press the power button to turn the LeapPad on.
d. When it powers on, it will have an image of a LeapPad with a yellow triangle on the screen.
e. Connect the LeapPad to the computer.
