The Leappad Is Frozen On The Welcome Screen.

I am not sure why Leappad doesn't publish this but here is how you fix a frozen leappad explore, they emailed me this when I called in:

Kindly try these steps which should put the LeapPad into a reset/tune up mode:

1) Begin with the LeapPad turned off and the LeapFrog Connect application running on your computer.
2) Hold down these three buttons at the same time:
- Right on the DPad (Since the device can be rotated two ways, the right arrow is on the right side of the DPAD when you are holding it in portrait mode)
- Home
- Down Volume
3) While holding down all 3 buttons , press the power button to turn the LeapPad on.
4) When it powers on, it will have an image of a LeapPad with a yellow triangle on the screen
5) Connect the LeapPad to the computer.

Please follow the steps below for the Repair/Reset after the Tune Up:

Open the LeapFrog Connect Application

1. Click Settings at the top of your screen.

2. To fix an issue with the LeapPad tablet, click Repair. To erase all files and game play data from the device, click Reset.

Note: The need to reset the LeapPad handheld is uncommon and is to be used with caution. It will erase ALL of the player names, game progress, play data, badges and Micromods from both the handheld and the LeapFrog Connect Application. You will need to create new player names on the handheld, and reconnect the LeapPad handheld to use the LeapFrog Connect Application.

3. Click Apply.

Push the power button and the ? mark button at the same time, and the recalibrate screen will come on and hit all the x's with your stylist and it will tell  you when done. Then power it off and turn back on(it should work) You  may have to put your app back in. Or try hit the setting on the leapfrog website and select the repair button.(It does take a while,  like it is stalled when you are repairing but it is running, so don't panic if it acts like it isn't working.(you need your cord for your computer to do this and plug into your leapfrog. Gookluck.

My daughter's LeapPad2 was frozen with no touch screen capability (neither stylus nor touch). The rectangular edge around the screen had a small crumb in it that was mistaken as input by the LeapPad. Using the corner of an envelope, I was able to slide the crumb out, then cleaned the screen with a microfiber cloth, and it started working great!

After powering on, hold the home and volume down button for around 10 seconds. That worked for me

I had the same problem on the Leappad Explorer. What worked for me was to:-

1. Turn it on

2. Wait until you see the welcome screen

3. At that stage it freezes; now press 'Home' and 'Volume Up' at the same time. Hold for 5 sec.

4. Then it was fine !

See if that works for you, too.
