Yes you can get photos from the camera. There are few apps that you can use to start your kindle fire HD camera available on amazon appstore. Some apps that are best for me to start camera are ES File Explorer and myCamera HD+. ES is a file explorer that lets you use kindle camera where as myCamera HD+ has its own customized camera and effects.
