Invacare Pronto M61 Will Not Turn Off

My Invacare Pronto M61 with SureStep worked fine. It was left in storage for a year, after which it developed the problem. When the power button on the controller is pressed, the wheelchair turns on normally. Pressing the button again does nothing. The chair will not power off. The only way to turn the chair off now is to unplug the cable from the controller. No error codes are shown at any time, and the chair functions normally otherwise. I have been unable to locate any information on this problem, aside from the fact that it has happened on other units of this model. If at all possible, I would like to find a solution other than spending $200+ on a new controller.
