How To Access The Capacitor In Hunter Fan Model 23856

Model 23856 is a white Hunter Original ceiling fan, but this model has been made for many years, so more information is required (specifically the year of mfg) before your question can be answered properly. I'm going to asssume that you looked in all the obvious places for the capacitor, like inside the switch housing and couldn't see it anywhere. That assumption being made, I'm going to say your fan was probably manufactured in the mid 1990's to the very early 2000's. The 7.5 MFD capacitor on these fans were mounted on the inside of the upper motor case, held in place with a nylon zip tie. If your fan has two zip ties visible on top of the fan case (the other tie secures the field wires that run outside the case), then you have found the capacitor. To access the capacitor you have to remove the bottom portion of the fan case (7 screws) and the stator (another 7 screws and a molex connector). Then you can you'll see the capacitor hanging under the top of the case. There will be one black wire and two white ones leading from the capacitor that connect to the fan. You'll need a special tool to remove one of the white wires from the molex connector or you can snip it and connect new wire to the pig tail. Use crimp type, not twist type caps for wire connections.
