Water Coming Out Of Hose Outlet

After using the hose attachment and unhooking it water is coming out of the outlet and spilling all over the floor, I am unable to use my carpet cleaner to clean carpets now. Taking it today to have it serviced, it is no longer under warranty as I have had it for 3-4yrs. now but love my machine when it is working. If repair costs are going to be to much then I will have to look at another option. Thanks in advance for any help.
