Thermostat Has A Mind Of Its Own

my thermostat will not cycle off no matter what the temp is or what its programmed for...for instance, right now, it is set for 70 degrees and is still running and approaching 75 degrees in the house...and the thermostat is in the "off" position

Greetings. The themostat sounds defect or going bad. The system may be to blame on the other hand though (e.g. if the thermostat enters the Recovery mode).
