Why Doesn't Any Of The Display Buttons On My Hp Printer Work And Display Screen?

after installing my printer and hooking it up when i went to cut it on the on button only flashed blue for a second and then flashed three more time and never stayed blue andthen went off. the printer was still on but the display screen never lit up or came on and none of the buttons on front of printer works. it will print off the computer but will not print...copy...fax or do anything on front of printer and no button works when they are pushed....why is this? printer is new.
