Connecting Macbook Pro To Hp Deskjet Printer

I'm trying to connect my MacBook Pro to a new HP Deskjet 2050 All-in-one J510 series printer. I've already installed more up-to-date software because my MacBook Pro is a 10.7.5. Now I have the cable USB cord attached, the printer plugged into the wall and I have WiFi. Yet it is not recognising the printer in the set-up process. In the set-up it says "The following devices are connected and available for installation..." but nothing comes up to choose. I don't understand why a brand new printer is not working with an Apple that's less than 12 months old. Thanks
