Ge Jes738wh Door Not Opening

I placed a cup of water to make hot in the GE JES738WH microwave and could not open the door after that. The spring action in the door latch doesn't seem to work. When I press the door latch, it just goes all the way back without any resistance but the door does not open. The cup is still inside and door is stuck. I would like to know how to open the stuck door. Thanks!
