Black Bars Across Top And Bottom Of Screen

Got these black bars across the bottom and top of the screen, middle part is clear. Wasn't originally there, but I just bought my camera yesterday and was experimenting and thse bars just appeared. Don't know how to remove them...

The user manual (http://www.general-imaging.com/uploadedFiles/40_Support/User_Manuals/J1456W/j1456w-usermanual-eng.pdf) does not refer to black lines anywhere.

I would suggest something is defective.  Take it back, show the retailer, they may know something additional.  If not demand a new one while the warranty is still good.
