Check to see if the ice maker is getting water from the water valve and also check the water supply line. The problem is not always the ice maker itself!!!!

For the GE Model PFSS6PKXSS: There is a manufacturers service note on the ice maker.  It was identified recently as having a faulty design.  It will need to be replaced by a new ice maker (I think its a Samsung design) that has a gasket attached to the rear of the water inlet.  With out the gasket, the old ice maker allowed large amounts of cold air to escape into the main compartment and that caused all kinds of problems; mainly slow ice production & helix motor burnouts.

Replacement cost can be as low as $135 and as high as $265 depending on where you buy the part.  Labor from a certified tech can run from $150-$200.

Also, for another $250 our tech ordered a replacement ice bin with a stainless steel helix (vice a plastic one the old bin had).  This will hold up better over the long term.

Total cost to fix was just over $800!  Fortunately, my American Home Shield policy covered just over $740.  Out of pocket cost for me was $60!

I hope this helps.
