Message Light On Cordless Phone Won't Stop Flashing

I have a GE Model 28811 DECT 6.0 cordless phone and the Charging/Message light keeps flashing even though I don't have any messages.  I tried connecting to it with the intercom from another phone which worked great but the light still flashes when I disconnect.  I unplugged the base and removed the battery from the handset with no success.

Your phone service provider probably offers voicemail.  This happened to me, and I cleared out my voicemail and it stopped blinking.  You're phone is smarter than you think...it knows when you have voicemail, etc.
