Garmin Nuvi 50lm Will Not Turn On In Car?

my Garmin Nuvi 50LM will start when connected to the car lighter, but will not initiate the final screen. It loops through the green bar "loading maps cycle, then kicks right back into that same cycle. When not plugged in it works fine, as long as the charge lasts. Is there a solution to this problem?
