Answer Needed On Gmth 400 Transmission.

i have two transmissions both are th400 one is from a one ton one is from a half ton is there a difference in the out put gear ratio in third gear. i put the one ton trans in a car with a 350 eng. car has 345 gears and runs 3800 at 60 mph, should i have used the half ton trans instead to bring the rpms down?

the gear ratio is the same on both transmissions. There are two types of gears hypoid and spur gear, the spur gear is stronger. Now to get your rpm lowered you need to change your differential ratio or get and overdrive transmission

There is no difference in the gear ratios, but there is a difference in the speedometer gears. This would result in the speedometer reading incorrectly.
