Engine Failure Due To Metal In Engine

My 2006 GMC Envoy Denali XL engine failed at 86,000 miles.  Dealer says engine has metal in it from using after market filter. Also says that because we only have oil change records from 10,000 miles onward to current, we cannot prove it was properly serviced for those miles. Too bad Mr. 20+ GM previously owned vehicles, give us $8600 and we will replace the engine.
