Issue With Clothes Lodging/ripping In Dryer

We love this dryer, but have an issue with it grabbing certain articles of clothing, where it eventually either winds it into a tight ball (from rotating around and around while lodged), pulling strings right out of shorts or worse, breaking zippers right off.  There are two metal pieces that form a crevice on the left side of the door that eventually come together about half way up the door.  As clothing is spinning, it lodges into this area and sticks.  I'm sure that if we lodged something up in there, it would solve the problem, but I don't know what?  Help!

Hi henekeerich - To determine why clothes may be ripping in your appliance, place your hand in an old pair of pantyhose or a nylon stocking (one you don't care about ripping) and slowly run your hand along the drum and agitator. Does it catch anything?

Even though you may have felt with your hands, you might have missed something that is causing the rips. The insides of these holes may rust, and material catches it even though you don't feel it with your hands. If you discover a snag, you can simply take household sandpaper and sand the area(s) down yourself to fix this problem.

The only other options may be to replace large internal components of the tub or seek a professional to accurately diagnose the unit to determine the root cause to reduce the risk of unnecessary parts.
