You can't close your boyfrined's account. He can do the following.

For deactivation:

Click the account menu at the top right of any Facebook page
Choose Account Settings
Select Security from the left-hand menu
Click on "Deactivate your account"

For deletion, press the Submit button on the deletion page.

If it was deleted, he can't reactivate. Otherwise (just deactivated), just log in as usual.
