- Park the mower on a flat surface and engage the parking brake.
- Locate the brake rod that runs from the brake pedal to the transmission.
- Loosen the jam nuts on the brake rod, which are located on either side of the brake linkage.
- Turn the brake rod clockwise to tighten the brake and counterclockwise to loosen the brake.
- Tighten the jam nuts once you have adjusted the brake to your desired level of tightness.
- Test the brake by disengaging the parking brake and slowly pressing down on the brake pedal. The mower should come to a complete stop when you apply the brakes.
If the brake pedal still feels too loose or too tight, you may need to adjust the position of the brake linkage. This can be done by loosening the bolts that hold the linkage in place and repositioning it slightly. Be sure to tighten the bolts securely once you have made the necessary adjustments.
Note that the specific steps for adjusting the brakes may vary slightly depending on the model and year of your Cub Cadet LTX 1040. Refer to the owner's manual for your mower for more detailed instructions and diagrams.
