My Trimmer Will Start And Run For A Couple Of Seconds And Die.

i have cleaned the spark shield, replaced the gas, replaced the spark plug.   continues to happen.  runs for a couple of seconds and dies.

The issue is valve timing. This happened to me. The gap in the rocker arms (exhaust/intake) is out of tolerence. Easy to set. You just need a 0.005 feeler gauge and a small wrench. Take the valve cover off so you can see the valve rocker arms. Remove the sparkplug and set the piston to top dead center (i.e. no pressure on rocker spring arms. They should be loose and even rattle a little. Place 0.005 (5 mil) feeler gauge under the rocker arm and rod. If its too tight (won't fit) or too loose (more than 5 mils, loosen the set nut on top of rocker arm and tighten until the 5 mil feeler gauge just fits. Reassemble and it should fire right up.
