Mp3 Player Only Plays The Instrumental Part Of The Piece

I downloaded books on tape onto the MP3 player. Two of the players play the background music over the voice recording. When the volume is turned way up you can barely hear the voice in the back of the music. How can I get the music to be heard above the background music?
