Has Anyone Had A Dispute With Citibank Regarding A Permanent Credit Card Credit

versus a temporary credit? I sent in a dispute letter and it was resolved within 30 days and my account was credited $26K and under the transaction description it stated "credit adjustment to your account," under Type it stated "Paid," Citibank also sent me a refund check for $13K for prior payments made. Seven weeks go by and Citibank reversed the credit. Two months go by and they tell me the credit to my account was temporary. I responded that on a different Citibank credit card when I had a dispute and they issued a temporary/provisional credit the description on my statement stated "Citibank provisional credit for dispute" and listed the dollar amount. I have been disputing this since January as Citibank's position is it was a temporary credit, and my position is it was a permanent credit. Citibank has stated that I requested the refund check so they sent it to me. I responded "does Citi always send out refund checks based on a temporary/provisional credit because the customer requested it?" Of course I did not receive a response.

Sorry for your problems. However, banks' immediate credits upon a customer's dispute are always temporary, pending the outcome of the bank's investigation.

If you feel the bank's ultimate resolution was unjust, you can
  1. Complain to your state's consumer protection agency: see https://www.usa.gov/state-consumer.
  2. Complain to the United States Consumer Financial Protection Bureau at
    https://www.consumerfinance.gov/complaint/getting-started/.

Bear in mind that even if the bank reverses the charge, the merchant may bypass the bank and pursue the charge in other ways.
