Tranny Trouble

transmission will "hook-up" in 1st and smoke-em, but going down the road it seems to have a little trouble shiftting up. It shifts but slips at the same time. If i ease off the gas it will go ahead and shift. this tranny doesnt have a govener in it does it? shouldnt be a manual one if it is lol. should i scrap it or is there an easy explanation for this behavior
