Cheap Tickets Cancellation

I have purchased an international return trip ticket from CheapTickets. Due to unavoidabe circumstances , I have to cancel it. Now the trouble begins. They say They cannot give my money back , I will have to rebook with them and with same airline again to use this amount. Then also they will charge total $300 as fees and rebooking fees. And I have to rebook the ticket within the date I had booked previously , or all the money lost .. it's around $1200 .... CheapTickets rep says it's Luftanza, not us .... Talk to them.. Ufff ! Now tickets proce are increasing as it nears the flight date . The airline can easily refill my seat with more profit, then why are they putting so much restrictions. Is this same with all the other booking portals, is this fair ?

So what I did was , took the ticket reference number from Cheap Tickets and talked to Lufthansa directly. At first they were hesitant to talk to me but when they got convinced that Cheap Tickets are not dealing as they should , they took over my ticket, bypassing cheap tickets. Now I can reuse my amount within a year . Ya , A cancellation / re booking fees of 250 will be charged by Lufthansa anyways.

Yes, the story is much the same at all airlines and flight booking service (Travelocity, orbitz, etc). Although you can sometimes get a reduction in fees by changing directly with the airline, rather than the carrier you bought it through (ie., cheap tickets.com)
