When Wi-Fi is accessed for the first time on the printer, it automatically searches for a Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) access point. (ie: your wireless modem or router)
If a WPS access point is detected, you should see a message asking you to press the WPS button on your access point (your wireless modem or router)
If you are unsure where the WPS button is located on the modem or router you have, then you should press stop on the printer and skip the wireless set up for now, and continue with the standard install/set up instead. You can always attempt the 'wireless set-up' once you ask your internet service provider about how you can access the Wi-Fi on their modem or router.
A standard set-up requires connecting the USB cable between the printer and your computer/laptop/etc.
Please Note: The usb cable should not be plugged into the printer until instructed to do so during the standard set up (non-wireless) steps.
To assist with setting up a wireless connection on a Canon Printer, you may benefit from watching the following YouTube video, as it shows step-by-step instructions to set up a your printer's wireless connection - from installing your printer to printing the test page.
