Black & White Printing Vs Colorb

I have changed my ink settings to print only in black and white. Why does the ink in my color cartridges get used up?

Greetings - These printers are sadly designed to combine all (if not almost all) colors each time (even when making a mere black and white print). Here is more on the subject -
