Print From Wireless Laptop

I'm trying to print from laptop that is not connected directly to the printer. Our desk top is directly connected to the printer by cable. On my laptop screen it either says, "in use" or "offline". I have loaded the printer info from the CD into my laptop. How can I print from my laptop?
