Many of our older inkjet printers had rear print trays, but not all of them have a front cassette.

Let me clear up a few things about the PIXMA MG5420.
The printhead is removable, but...
Because the printhead itself is very delicate and critical to the function of the unit, , the removal process is designed to prevent unintentional removal of the printhead when changing ink or performing other maintenance on the printer. Cleaning the printhead or changing ink does not require the removal of the printhead. Additionally, the printhead is installed at the factory to limit the customer's need to manipulate this delicate part. Unless the printer is being serviced, there is no need to remove the printhead.
About the paper trays: If you review the specification page for the printer, you will find that the printer uses two front cassette trays. A "Lower Cassette" with a 125 Sheets Plain Paper capacity and an "Upper Cassette" with a 20 Sheets Photo Paper (4" x 6") capacity.
