Buying A 2009 Srx?

I am considering purchasing a 2009 SRX about to come off my friends lease. He has taken very good care of the car. My mechanic (I own a 1998 Jaguar) suggests that I stay away from this vehicle. He showed me the repair bulletins on this vehicle and it concerns me. My questions include: What should I be looking at/for in this vehicle? Is an extended warranty available and should I purchase one? Is this a vehicle worth owning? I like my cars to be trouble free and yes, my jaguar is a very dependable low-cost vehicle.
