There are a few things that could be going on with your car, but the most likely reason is that your car's oil level is low. The oil in the coolant system is used to lubricate and protect the engine from heat. If you have been driving your car for a long time without changing the oil, it will start to break down and leak into other parts of the engine. You need to get this fixed as soon as possible by taking it in to a mechanic.
