Help With My Buick 2004 Ignition

How can I tell if I need to replace myignition lock cylinder assembly or my key its self. My 2004 buick regal has the constant security light(which it hasnt come on before) it appears my car is on without hearing the engine. You can turn the key all the way and still have nothing. Which makes me think it is not the ignition switch. I need help because no one will give me the honest answer. I took my car to the shop for a diagnostic on may 27 and they said nothing about this which is really frustrating.
