Behringer Xenyx X1222usb Monitor Send

I've acquired a XENYX X1222USB. Everything seems to function properly with the board except for the monitor portion. I have (2) active wedges that take XLR cables as inputs. The XENYX MON send is 1/4". I have an adapter of 1/4" to XLR from MON SEND to XLR wedge. I can't get ANY of the channels to send sound through the MON SEND function. I know it must be something simple! What am I missing?????
