B&n Gift Card V/s Credit Card

I brought nook color for my grandchid. I brought a gift card because I do not want to enter my credit information . It shows the gift card credit but still ask for a credit card when I try to download a book or game. Why?

That is sort of annoying is'nt it? If you think about it the reason seems more reasonable.  They want you to have a credit card on file in case you run out of funds on your gift card.  They are counting on you eventually buying something that exceeds the amount of funds available on your card. So they want a back-up on file.
