Sounds like the best thing to do is to update the audio drivers to see if that will help resolve your microphone issue. Have you tried going into device manager to see if you have any yellow exclamation warning symbols.   Here is a link below where you can download the audio driver. Make sure you select which operating system you are currently running. You can also activate ASUS live updates. Go to start, all programs, asus utility, and asus live update.
